Kendal golfers Sue Howell and Rosie Waller were part of the Cumbria team which defeated Yorkshire in the Northern Counties Championship at Kendal GC.
Cumbria won five of their seven matches and it was the first time they had beaten Yorkshire in the competition.
County captain Howell said: “I was very proud of my team and it was an historic day for ladies golf in Cumbria.”
Cumbria will return to Kendal Golf Club on July 22 when they face Durham.
l FRED Foster and Margaret Bebington, both of Grange Fell Golf Club, won the club’s The GoKart Mixed Open, their prize being two GoKart electric trollies.
l KIRKBY Stephen Primary School are teeing up to represent the county in the region final of the TriGolf national skills competition.
Kirkby will fly the flag for Cumbria after they won the county qualifying round at French Fields, Penrith.
More than 60 children from nine schools took part and Kirkby will head to Manchester on June 15 to face teams from Cheshire and Lancashire, with a spot in the national final at Loughborough University up for grabs.
