Kendal bike hero Alan Bud Jackson raced in for 39th place in the opening Superbike TT race on Saturday – on a day when more history was made by Morecambe’s John McGuinness.
Jackson’s 1000cc Yamaha completed the six laps of the gruelling 37 and three-quarter-mile Mountain Circuit at an average speed of 114.40.
But all eyes were turned to the top of the field where McGuinness soared to a 16th TT title.
The Honda TT Legends rider overcame an early challenge from Bruce Anstey and a strong pit stop at the end of lap 2 saw him reassert himself. When the Kiwi went out at Quarry Bends, John was already 20 seconds clear.
With Guy Martin retiring on lap five, McGuinness’ eventual winning margin was almost a minute over Cameron Donald who came through to take second, some 10 seconds clear of Gary Johnson who took third despite suffering a 30-second penalty for infringing the pit lane speed limit.
Meanwhile, Barrow’s Dan Stewart finished 10th in Monday’s Superstock race after coming sixth in the Superbike TT.
All three will compete in tomorrow’s Senior TT.
