HOSTS Kendal Golf Club emerged from the Westmorland Inter-Club Championship in proud possession of both the Junior and Senior Shields.
One of the biggest fixtures on the local golfing calendar, the annual three-cornered duel between the Kendal, Windermere and Apply clubs took place in cloudy, testing playing conditions on Sunday.
Kendal captured the Junior Shield with a score of 370 from Windermere in second on 380 and Appleby third on 412.
Windermere’s Rob Griffiths shot a 76 for the best junior singles gross score to take the Graham Andrew Shield.
The Junior Foursomes ended in a tie for honours between Appleby’s Chris Kirkpatrick and Andrew Moncaster and Kendal’s Ryan Wilson and Michael Burrow on 85.
Appleby took the Veterans Salvers with a score of 230, with Kendal second on 237 and Windermere third on 249.
Appleby’s Andrew Morrison carded the best veterans gross with a 72 for the Graham Andrew Salver.
Kendal’s Peter Nelson supplied the shot of the day when scored a hole-in-one on the seventh.
When the seniors did battle, Kendal emerged triumphant to lift the Championship Shield on 658, with Appleby second on 695 and Windermere third on 704.
Kendal’s Greg Dixon and James Atkinson tied for the best senior singles gross score when both returning 70s, but Atkinson took the Graham Andrew Bowl by virtue of a better back nine holes.
Atkinson combined with fellow Kendal clubmate Jamie McDonald to win the Senior Foursomes with a 68.
HOME club golfer Mark Garrett won the North British Hickory Championship at Grange-over-Sands. New to hickory golf, Mark used a rental set of original pre-1930 clubs and went round in 80 to beat Bill Stephens of Kendal Golf Club.
