CUMBERLAND’s teenage off-spinner Liam Livingstone took 5-59 on the first day of the three-day Minor Counties Championship match against Suffolk at Mildenhall.
But the match remains finely balanced with Suffolk having two centurians in Tom Huggins (148) and Hassam Adnam (100) to rack up a first innings total of 339-6 off the allotted 90 overs.
Cumberland were chipper at the close of play, however, after making a sound start in reply at 46-0 off 19 overs.
Suffolk have taken four batting bonus points and Cumberland two bowling bonus points.
Cumberland team manager Ian Sharp said: “I am very satisfed with a good day’s play. The bowlers bowled well and kept the ball in the right areas on an excellent batting track.”
He added: “Seventeen-year-old Barrow off-spinner Liam Livingstone was the pick of the bowling attack and deserved his five wickets.
“And with out opening pair undefeated, we are confident in matching Suffolk’s first innings’ total.”
