NEW Zealander Jamie How sent out a warning to the bowlers of the FBS Northern Premier League with devastating impact after Saturday’s programme.
A century-maker in the Readers Cup the previous week, New Zealander Jamie How eclipsed that feat with a trmendous unbeaten 157 on Saturday.
His shot-filled knock on a poor wicket which had the ball bouncing at all angles created a new Kendal first XI individual batting record and paved the way for a 132-run victory over Fleetwood at Broadwater.
It surpassed the previous Shap Road club best set by Morecambe and Cumberland wicketkeeper/batsman Ikram Ullah, who made 151 against Carnforth in 2006.
Kendal skipper Chris Miller chose to bat on winning the toss at a dry Fleetwood and Jonathan Miles' second-ball dismissal, caught behind to a diving catch brought How's early arrival on the scene.
The 30-year-old, who came to the club from taking part in the World Cup with an impressive background of 19 Tests and 41 one-day internationals behind him, proved his reputation as a fearsome hitter to be well-founded as he cracked six fours but a stunning 13 sixes.
It brought him 102 in runs over the boundary ropes as his 157 haul came off 149 balls in 183 minutes.
Incredibly, How had made just one scoring shot off the first 18 balls he faced before gradually winding up an authoratative assault of the Fleetwood bowling.
He put on 70 for the sixth wicket in 11 overs with Jack White, who was Kendal's next highest scorer with 18.
Another useful stand came when he shared 63 for the third wicket with Terry Hunte (16), and it helped the visitors' innings turn the corner from 15 for two to 78 before Hunte fell to an lbw decision.
Fleetwood professional Ryan Smith went for 69 runs off his 12 overs while picking up three wickets.
Kendal's booming confidence and their opponents' dismay was there to see after tea as Fleetwood were dismissed for 105 in 37.3 overs.
Stu Parkin, who took 3-44 off his 12 overs, started the downfall with a couple of early victims as Fleetwood slumped to 26 for three.
Keeping the pressure on, skipper Miller plundered 4-38 off 12.3 overs with Andy Shrorrocks (30) and Nick Coultas (21) repsonsible for almost half their runs between them.
