WINDERMERE professional Simon Edwards has qualified for the Open for the second year running.

A superb seven under par won the ifnal qualifying at Prince's GC in Kent.

Now he hopes to redeem himself after going out as the bottom of the pile with a 21-over par in the first round on his Open debut at St Andews.

He admitted to being terrified and overawed at St Andews last year.

He saiid after qualifying to go to Sandwich this year: "I wanted to back to an Open and enjoy this one a bit more - that's the whole plan.

Recent efforts have done Edwards cv no end of good with two Opens, three BMW PGA Championships and two PGA Cup under his belt.

ADAM Chapman, a 16-year-old junior golf from Windermere Golf Club, was runner- up in the County Strokeplay Championship.

The 72-hole competition was played over two days at Workington Golf Club, where Adam carded an impressive score of 287 for the four rounds only to be beaten by home competitor Will Bowe, who shot a four-round 284.

It was a tight competition as both players were tied after the first three rounds.

THE SUN shone for Windermere Golf Club's Captain's Weekend, but the recent moist weather followed by the warmth left the rough thick and lush, giving members a real challenge if they were not on line to hit the fairways.

On Saturday Junior Captain Dom Musetti carded a net 63 to win the Club Captain's Junior Cup.

Around 100 members competed in Captain’s Day on Sunday. Head greenkeeper and scratch golfer David Wilkinson recorded a gross/net 63 to take the Trophy and Captain's Prize, which was a one-night stay, dinner bed and breakfast for two at Sharrow Bay Hotel on Ullswater.
