AMBLESIDE Sports with its mix of the traditional and the modern is set to enthral again at Rydal Park on Thursday and this year a world championship will be decided at the popular summer fixture.
The Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling Under-18 World Championship will be staged as part of an action-packed programme.
Visitors to the Sports are always intrigued by the spectacle of wrestlers in their traditional decorated costumes, which is compulsory wear for a World Championships.
The wrestling bouts start about 1pm when the wrestlers parade their costumes and prizes are awarded to those adjudged the best.
Gates open to the public at 10am with the sports programme starting after the opening address at noon.
To set the scene there will be a unicycle race before the official opening.
The afternoon unfolds with a full series of hound trails, five Guides and fell races, grass track cycle races and handicapped track running events in addition to the wrestling programme.
Children of all ages can also enter their own races which are staged in a separate arena and no pre-registration is required for these events.
There will be a large craft marquee and plenty of trade stands, rides and activities.
In addition to watching jugglers and circus entertainers there will also be a chance to have a go.
There will also be a wide variety of catering units and a brass band will be playing in the beer tent.
