A NEW name appeared on the cup for the Ambleside Open Singles when John Parkin (Cross Hills, Yorkshire) narrowly beat Steve Ashburn (Holme) in 21-20 in the final. After 30 ends and with the score standing at 20-20 it took a measure to determine the final end.
The beaten semi-finalists were Derek Tebay (Ambleside), 21-11 to Parkin, and Ray Wilson (Ambleside), 21-15.
ANN Slinger won Burneside Open Singles, sponsored by Kendal Car Centre Ltd, on Saturday. She beat David Heness also from Burneside 21-18 in the competition’s first-ever all Burneside final.
The beaten semi-finalists were Paul Dennison, who lost 21-19 to the eventual winner and David Tugman (Burneside), who lost 21-19 to David Heness.
Home bowler Aiden Milliard won Levens Open Singles, sponsored by M.J. Medcalf Joinery, and at age 15 became the second youngest winner since Philip Davis ( of Levens and also 15 ), won the inaugural event in 1991.
Aiden beat fellow Levens bowler Ray Got 21-8 in the final after beating David Robinson (Crosthwaite) 21-11 in the semi-finals.
In the other semi-final Gott had a tough game against fellow Levens bowler James Dennison to win by one point.
Cumbria Ladies CGBA Champion of Champions qualifying event went to Debbie Hall (Coop) with a 21-19 final win over Julie Gibbons (King Alfred).
Hall will represent Cumbria at the Waterloo Blackpool on October 2 in the Champion of Champions final.
