TWO Lakeland Fell Runners have successfully completed an epic non-stop run incorporating every lake, mere and water in the Lake District.
Dave Makin and Andy Pooler from the Achille Ratti Climbing Club based in Great Langdale took on the ‘Lakes, Meres and Waters’ run which covers more than 100 miles and has 22,500 feet of ascent.
The route started at Lowes Water in the north west andended at Over Water in the north east of the National Park.
The 26-checkpoint itinerary of the LMW was first completed on June 13/14 1981 by Leo Pollard and subsequently by three others, Peter Schofield, Alan Heaton and Joss Naylor, but has not been completed for more than 28 years.
‘ We planned the run to coincide with Leo’s 30th anniversary to celebrate his remarkable achievement, ” said Dave.
“We completed the run in 35 hours 5 minutes despite hot and sunny conditions and blisters and sore feet on July 1/2, 2011”
