Lanequest - Rural ride series continues to grow in popularity

ENDMOOR rider Dave Hollingham and Anne Plant of Pennington cut the celebratory cake as newly-crowned men’s and women’s champions in the Lakeland Lanequest series.

Racing from Staveley in the last of the Wheelbase-backed six-race series, the 116 riders faced narrow lanes and steep climbs around Crook, Winster and Crosthwaite.

The network of minor roads south of Staveley offered the 116 riders many Hollingham’s overall total of 1206 from Mike Toyn (Staveley) on 1192 gave him the overall honours, with David Heffernan (Ulverston) on 1169 in third.

Plant took the women’s title with 1068 points from Stephanie Jones on 1025 in second and Jo Cleary,1018, in third.

Bryony Halcrow was a clear Juniors winner with 962 - good enough for fourth in the women’s from Jake Mason & Tom Simpson 720, and third Peter Thompson 420.

In the Generation pairs Matt and Katie Woods scored 1010 to hold first place from Stuart Walker and Parris Huitson, 920.

Chris Stevens and Hannah Cleary Hughes, 883, were third.

A close contest in the Adult pairs/3’s gave Ltham’s Andrew and Sarah Crozier victory with 1058 from Mike Brooks and Andy Beck, 1054, in second and Helen Jackson and Paul Vousden, 924, in third.

Staveley results: Solo men - 1= Bryan Singleton (Little Langdale) and David Hollingham (Endmoor); 3 Tom Gibbs 292.

Solo Women - 1 Stephanie Jones 260; 2 Jo Cleary 250, 3 Anne Plant 248.

Juniors - 1= Bryony Halcrow and pair of Jake Mason/ om Simpson 250.

Generation pairs: 1 Matt and Katie Woods led 250; 2 Chris Stevens and Hannah Cleary Hughes 230; 3 Peter Thompson and Jack Wilson 214.

In the Adults pairs/3’s 0 1 Andrew and Sarah Crozier 266; 2 Helen Jackson and Paul Vousden 240; 3 Tony and Paul Richardson 222.

The series is growing in popularity and is expected to raise £300 for charity, said Carol McNeill, the series organiser,
