North Women’s Hockey League Sheffield Hallam 2 Kendal 2 A LATE equaliser prevented Kendal earning victory in Yorkshire as Sheffield Hallam took a share of the spoils.
A fast start from Kendal piled the pressure on the league leaders and Vicky Jones broke the deadlock with a volley from close range.
But Sheffield got their chance from a short corner and the scores were level at half time.
Kendal came out strong again in the second half, and restored their lead when Laura Morris deflected a short corner into the goal at the back post, but the hosts had the final say with a later goal to earn a draw, the match ending 2-2.
Div 2 West Wigan 1 K Stephen 1 Kirkby Stephen travelled to Wigan, who were relegated from Division One last year, and imposed themselves from the start, winning several penalty corners.
Despite the pressure, Kirkby couldn’t convert and were dealt a blow when Mel Earl had to leave the field after being hit in the face by a lifted ball.
As the team regrouped they took the lead through a Gemma Whittam goal but Wigan were resilient and forced an equaliser to share the points.
Kirkby were left disappointed after a solid display and hope to get back to winning ways at home to Alderly Edge this weekend.
Cumbria Women’s League Kendal 2's were 6-1 winners at home to South Lakes in the Cumbria Women’s League with a dominant performance.
The hosts had much of the early pressure and it was rewarded when Beth Hoggarth bagged the opening goal from a back post tap in.
Claire Martin added a second from a well worked set piece but South Lakes reduced the deficit to 2-1 before the break.
Kendal worked through the gears in the second half though with some quality passing and possession, with Rebecca Camp and Rebecca Delbridge impressing.
Hoggarth continued her run of excellent form with four second half goals to secure victory for Kendal. bagging 4 second half goals taking her final match total to an amazing 5.
Ulverston’s 3-0 win against Carlisle 2nds keeps them top and now five points clear as they look to bounce straight back into the North Women’s Hockey League after relegation. Goals came from Karen Tyson (2) and Rachael Roberts.
