A SUCCESSFUL 2011 continued for the Lakeland Orienteering Club when they lifted the Yvette Baker Trophy at the National Club Junior Championships in Lincolnshire on Sunday.
A party of 33 juniors made the long journey across to the Mausoleum Woods near Caistor and a rich ride and path network with many distinctive trees made for a rapid pace with sufficient challenges.
Daisy Fletcher-Cooney and Andrew Brockbank had fine runs as winning girl and boy on the yellow course and Jonny Crabbe was in imperious form to win on orange, to secure three 100 point maximums.
Noah Howlett and Stewart Allison led the supporting cast as second boy on yellow and third boy on orange and with only the best nine scores counting, Sam Yates (yellow), Ben Hewson (orange), Kirsten Bell (light green), Natalie Beadle (green) and Carl Edmonds (green) gave plenty of back up with fourth-placed finishes.
Lakeland’s winning margin was eight points as they finished on 885 points with the West Midlands club Octavian Droobers a close second.
