NETHERFIELD Cricket Club have signed Cumberland all-rounder Chris Williams ahead of the 2012 FBS Northern Premier Cricket League season.
Williams, an opening bowler, has signed from Morecambe after a successful two year spell and believes the move will provide a new challenge for him.
Playing for Cumberland, Williams has one day figures of 6-49 in the Minor Counties League and a top score with the bat of 68 not out.
Williams’ arrival comes as batsman Alex Atkinson hands back his cricketing whites after moving to the Yorkshire league with Bradford and Bingley.
Newly-appointed captain John Mason, who takes over from Chris Parry, said: “Chris [Williams] will no doubt be a key figure for us next season adn we’re delighted to have him on board.
“It’s unfortunate to lose a player of Alex’s quality but he’s decided to make the switch to the Yorkshire League, but NCC will continue to be bigger than any one player.
“Alex’s departure opens an opportunity for other guys to step up and perform. He has been a popular member of the side and a good friend of all the first team. I wish him all the best for next season and hope he can come back to visit and support NCC.”
The new season is due to start on Saturday, April 14, with Netherfield hosting league champions St Anne’s.
