Swimming: Munro-Bennett scoops six medals at Cumbria Gala

SCOTT Munro-Bennett blew his competition out of the water as he set six club records on his way to a bagful of medals.

Following on from his success in Copeland, the 14-year-old from Kendal dominated the latest round of the Cumbria Graded Galas at Lakes Leisure, Kendal, with some stunning swims.

Munro-Bennett collected four gold medals in the 50m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m backstroke and the 200m individual medley, while he also won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly and a bronze for the 100m breaststroke.

He also collected a speeding ticket from an outstanding piece of all round swimming in the individual medley which took him outside the upper limit time.

Emily Wild was top of the girls’ racing as she showed lots of youthful exuberance on her way to 100m and 200m backstroke gold.

But she had to settle for bronze medals in the 50m backstroke sprint and the more gruelling 400m freestyle event.

Nicholas Carlton scored a splendid win in the 100m breaststroke having quickly got into a steady stroke pattern which set him well on the road to victory, while nine-year-old Sophie Richardson sealed a clutch of gold medals for the Troutbeck Bridge club with a superb piece of backstroke swimming to snatch victory in an exciting finish.

Stephanie Booth produced an outstanding effort in the 100m individual medley and she too found herself outside the upper limit time and got a Speeding Ticket.

She followed this up with bronze medal swims at 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke.

Laura Garrick (100m individual medley, 100m backstroke) and Lucy Bradbury (100m backstroke, 50m backstroke) both got silver and bronze medals for their fine efforts.

To complete a marvellous day for the squad Ollie Sargeant (50m breaststroke) and Lewis Horrax (100m individual medley joined the action and saw their efforts bring them a bronze medal each.
