WRESTLERS from around Cumbria and North Lancashire travelled to Carlisle to compete for the Cumberland and Westmorland Academy Shield with the Kendal Academy aiming to retain the shield they won 12 months ago.
The competition tests the all round strength of clubs with no fewer than 13 wrestlers competing, ranging from 6st to 15st on a round robin basis.
In the lightest weights all the clubs were very evenly matched but Carlisle built an unassailable lead in the middle order.
Kendal were to run the north Cumbrians close though as Joseph Robson won all his falls in the all weights category and Graham Brocklebank, who competed at 14 and 15st won all six falls.
Brocklebank was voted best wrestler for the evening while Hadyn Kinf won all of his falls in the 10st division.
Kendal resume training on Friday, January 13 at Lakes Leisure and the Milnthorpe club meets on Thursday evenings at Dallam Sports Centre.
Result: 1 Carlisle 31 pts, 2 Kendal 27 pts, 3 Milnthorpe 10pts, 4 Waberthwaite 9pts.
