Golf: New schemes aimed at keeping healthy in 2012

THE Cumbria County Golf Partnership has launched two new initiatives aimed at keeping people healthy through 2012.

The Golf 4 Girls and Healthy Golf Force schemes will offer new golfers six weeks of free lessons from a qualified PGA coach, while also helping participants to enjoy the health and social benefits of the sport.

Sessions will take place during February and March with Golf 4 Girls open to all females aged 16 and over who are new to golf or who are returning to the sport.

Healthy Golf Force is aimed at employers and employees across the county and offers the chance to help create a healthier and more sociable workforce.

A pilot scheme in 2011 proved very popular with firms taking part ranging from a garage, a timber business to a RAF station and all equipment is provided.

County development officer Jane Robinson said: "The Golf 4 Girls scheme offers the ideal chance to try golf in the company of people in a similar position – whether it be a group of friends or a few family members, such as a mum and daughter.

“Healthy Golf Force offers the chance of not only finding a way for co-workers to enjoy a more active lifestyle but to spend some time together in a fun environment away form the pressures of work.

“Both these programmes offer an opportunity for anyone interested in playing golf to take the plunge – and it won't cost them a penny."
