THE Cumbria County Crown Green Bowling Asssociation has revealed its first key date for the 2012 season.
The men’s senior merit competition will be held on Sunday, April 1, at Roose Cons and West Mount Bowling Clubs in Barrow.
The competition is open to all male bowlers playing for a Cumbrian club and has become more prominent on the bowls calendar in recent years.
The winner goes on to represent Cumbria in the champions of champions event based in Blackpool and is deemed by many across the county as the sport’s most prestigious competition.
In recent years the winner of the Cumbria Merit has also been invited to play in the Portugal Masters, with both finalists going on to represent Cumbria in the All Britain competition, which was broadcast on Sky Sports in 2011.
In 2010 the contest was won by Liam Howard and an added incentive for 2012 sees prize money on offer for the last 16.
The winner will receive £100 and the runner up £80. Semi-finalists will win £50 with quarter-finals earning £30 and those reaching the last 16 will take home £10.
