Stockport Bramhall 2nds 2
Windermere 5
WINDERMERE strengthened their lead at the top of NW Division 4 with a 5-2 win at Stockport Bramhall 2s.
Saturday’s North West League fixtures were decimated by frost but Mere’s game survived and, with six regular first-teamers unavailable, Mere were also able to give some of their emerging youngsters a run out.
After a goalless first half, Mere’s superiority was converted into goals with man-of-the-match Harry Jackson bagging a hat-trick, including a super deflection at a penalty corner.
His younger brother Richie scored from open play on his first team debut and Steve Heyns added a fifth from a penalty corner strike.
Stockport replied with two goals but the result was never in doubt.
Cumbria Women’s League
In the Cumbria Women’s League Ulverston defeated Keswick 2-1 to remain top.
The hosts dominated for most of the first half with several shots requiring good saves from Sam Ormerod in the Keswick goal.
It was the visitors who took the lead though when Carol Dawson pounced on a stray ball in the home team D.
Keswick continued to battle hard in the second half but eventually the pressure told and Ulverston pulled level through Karen Tyson.
They took the lead when Georgia Wright deftly slotted home at the far post off a ball in from Rachael Roberts and held on for the three points.
