LAKELAND Orienteering Club made a determined start to the 2012 Cumbrian Galoppen series with wins on three courses and a dominance of top ten placings across all courses at Penrith Beacon.

Juniors Will Rigg (M16), Kristian De Vries (M14) and Sam Yates (M14) were respective winners on the technical 6.4km blue, intermediate 3.4km light green and easier 2.7km yellow courses.

The woodland surrounding Penrith Beacon presented slow underfoot conditions with undergrowth, fallen timber and pitted ground for the Borderliners club’s first event in the new series. The new year also marked the introduction to new age classes for a number of competitors.
