Table Tennis; Dallam C extend lead in Kendal league

DALLAM C’s promotion hopes from division two of the Kendal and District League received a major boost as they pummelled Grayrigg A 8-2 to open up an eight-point cushion in second place.

Their seventh win of the campaign started off shakily as they crept into a narrow 3-2 lead courtesy of Elliot Webster’s 3-0 and 3-1 victories against Doug Baxter and Olly Philpott-Smith. Ben Dixon and Baxter forged strong resistance for Grayrigg, as they both disposed of Zak Crosby McCann.

Moving into the second period Dallam took the encounter by the scruff of the neck, when Webster and Norman Philbey snatched all three wins and Crosby-McCann’s four set success against Philpott-Smith confirmed the 8-2 triumph.

Burton D are positioned just outside the promotion places in fourth thanks to a 6-4 victory away at Dent A.

Burton had Bryan Rhodes to thank for their fifth win of the season, as he won three ties in addition to Shelley Rhodes’ double triumphs against Peter Hawley and Danny Smith.

Dent’s points came courtesy of Steve Hawley’s two wins against Shelley Rhodes and Daniel Herd, adding to Peter Hawley’s win, also against Herd and victory in the doubles.

In Division three Dallam E continue to head the table and look like clear favourites for the title, with a 78-point cushion at the summit.

Dent B are showing their promotion credentials in second place, despite losing 21-19 against Burton F.

Brian Gourlay remained unbeaten for Burton, while he was ably supported by team-mates Lynne Herd and Matthew Holden, who won two games apiece.

Dent’s points came courtesy of Danny Smith’s brace of victories against Holden and Herd, adding to a late win in the doubles.

At the relegation end of division three Grayrigg B and Natland D occupy the bottom two places.
