Brooklands Poynton 2nds 1
Kendal 3
JUST 11 players made the trip to Brooklands seeking a fresh start to the second half of the season.

And they got off to a perfect start when Lou Phillips swept the ball past the keeper on five minutes from a Nicola Conway through ball.

Kendal pressured well and made play difficult for Brooklands and before long it was 2-0 with Conway breaking free down the right before crossing for Vicky Jones to smash the ball into the corner.

The 2nd half started much the same with Kendal trying to hold Brooklands in their own half, but the hosts came out stronger and forced Fiona Battersby to make some crucial saves. However they finally got a breakthrough from a short corner.

This spurred Kendal back into life, and Vicky Jones went on a mazy run through D to fire another shot into the far corner for a 3-1 win.

In Division 2 West Kirkby Stephen were also 3-1 winners as they travelled to Carlisle. The win lifts Kirkby into fifth place in the league.

Cumbria Women’s League
Ulverston moved ten points clear at the top of the Cumbria Women’s League with a 3-1 home win against Penrith in unpleasant weather conditions on Saturday.

Contending with winds so strong one of the goals needed extra weights to stop it from blowing away made it difficult for the team playing into the wind to make any real headway.

Penrith were the better team in the first half and it took dogged determination from Stef Sykes and her defenders to keep the visitors out.

Ulverston were to go behind to an own goal but the hosts stamped their authority on the match n the second half and Karen Tyson drew them level from a penalty corner.

And they took the lead from another Tyson corner before Rachael Roberts laid the ball off to Nikki Satterthwaite in the D to slot home and finish the scoring at 3-1.
