KENDAL County travelled to Ladybridge in the Challenge Cup first round on a Saturday where every other West Lancashire Football League match was cancelled.
The game was played in strong winds that came back to haunt County in the second half. County started well and gained the lead in the 20th minute when Jason Jones snuck behind the defence from a Shane Lambert cross and tapped in from close range.
Many chances passed with County Keeper Davis being a spectator for most of the first half.
After the break, County had chances to extend their lead through Gary Baker and Joe Baker but the defence foiled them.
County were then caught out by the gale force wind when a cross-field pass looked to be sailing out of play until the wind caught it and took it 30 yards back past the County defence, playing a Ladybridge striker through on goal and he neatly chipped the ball over Davis.
And the defence was caught out again when the ball bounced awkwardly, allowing a Ladybridge player an easy tap in for a 2-1 win.
Ambleside United’s top of the table clash with Burscough Richmond was postponed in division two, as was Milnthorpe Corinthians’ Challenge Cup match at Todmorden Borough.
