Kendal Town 1
Frickley Athletic 1
KENDAL Town had to settle for a point against strugglers Frickley Athletic at the CosySeal Stadium on Saturday.

A scrappy affair created few chances in the first half, with the main talking point being an Alex Taylor yellow card on two minutes.

Taylor went in late on Ben Turner and the Athletic player remained on the deck for some time, while the visiting bench remonstrated strongly with referee Philip Dermott for a sending off.

Dermott though angered the visitors by only producing a yellow, but it set the scene for a feisty encounter.

On ten minutes Kevin Leadbetter rode a challenge before getting to the edge of the box and his cross forced a corner, but Tow couldn't capitalise.

Birthday boy Shaun Gray followed Taylor into the referee's notebook on 15 minutes for a foul on James Ashmore and Athletic almost snatched the lead from the resultant set piece.

Ashmore took the free kick, which he whipped into the box but after a goalmouth melee the ball was cleared to safety.

Town won a corner from a bad backpass to Steve Dickinson but after Lincoln Adams header clear, Gary McEvatt struck wide from the edge of the box.

The chances kept coming and passing without any real threat in the first half but Danny Wisdom should have given Town the lead at the interval.

Just two minutes before the break a Taylor shot inside the box fell to Wisdom three yards out but the ball stuck under his feet and Dickinson collected.

McEvatt was subbed ten minutes into the second half with the returning Carl Osman coming on for him.

Athletic struck the post soon after but on the hour mark it was Town who made the breakthrough.

A long ball to the left wing was superbly picked up by Donnelly and a sweeping cross led to the goal.

Mark Jackson missed the ball at the near post but Taylor controlled and shot beyond Dickinson to the bottom right corner to put Town 1-0 to the good.

It was a short-lived lead though as Athletic were back on level terms just three minutes later.

Leadbetter was penalised for dragging Ashmore down on the right of the box and from the free kick Ashmore headed beyond Craig Dootson in the Town goal.

With just ten minutes to go Town looked the more likely to go on and take all three points but the ball wouldn't fall for them this afternoon.

Leadbetter struck wide from the left of goal before substitute Tom Kilifin fired straight at Dickinson and when another effort went over the top both sides took a point apiece.
