A HAT-TRICK from Ahmed Obeng sealed a 3-1 victory for Rushall Olympic against Kendal Town at the CosySeal Stadium on Saturday.

Obeng made the most of his opportunities as Olympic avenged last week's 3-2 home defeat to Lee Ashcroft's side.

Town started fast and forged an opening with just 50 seconds on the clock when Carl Osman set up Ciaran Donnelly in the box but his effort was well saved by visiting keeper Chris Gemell.

And it was Osman who ran the show in the early exchanges as he darted into the box to win a corner before Town's Ashley Dunn burst through the middle, only to have Gemell save a lacklustre shot.

Olympic settled though and on 17 minutes went close when Obeng robbed the ball off Jordan Tucker at left back.

Obeng ran into the box and placed the ball beyond Craig Dootson but Town were let off when it trickled wide of the far post.

Dootson pushed another Obeng strike behind minutes later but the breakthrough came on 25 minutes from Olympics pacy star.

An unlucky bounce on the edge of the area ricocheted off Shaun Gray and Obeng was on hand to head home from two yards.

In the 42nd minute a blatant handball in the box looked to give Town a penalty lifeline with defender Lucas Spittle leading a block with his hands above his head but the referee waved play on.

And Town were hit with a sucker-punch on the stroke of half-time when a lack of communication between Marc Joseph and Dootson allowed the ball to bounced between then and Obeng was there again to slot home.

In the second half Ashcroft tinkered with his tactics as he switched Adam Farrell to the front line with Mark Jackson, before brining on Tom Kilifin and Alex Taylor.

But Town were having an off day with few notable opportunities in the wake of their Lancashire Trophy final defeat to Chorley.

Craig Bannister could have finished the game off in the 79th minute when the ball flew across the face of goal but he missed his strike and Town escaped.

It looked like a repeat of last weekend could be on the cards as Town pulled a goal back in the 87th minute.

Mark Jackson fired a well timed effort beyond Gemell from a Dunn lay off in the box, but just a moment later Obeng poked home a Bannister cross to seal the win for the visitors.
