Netherfield triumph over Kendal in Twenty20 derby

KENDAL’S batting let them down as they failed to chase down Netherfield’s target of 124 at Parkside Road last night (Tuesday) Opener and pro Cobus Pienaar was caught by Darren Braithwaite off Jack White for 16 in the fourth over as Netherfield were 36-1.

Marc Brown (30) and Chris Williams (27) put runs on the board and at the halfway stage Netherfield were 63-2.

Kendal put men on the boundaries to restrict Netherfield largely to singles and the wickets soon began to come.

Of the remaining eight batters only Ben Barrow (16) got into double figures as Netherfield reached 123-9 off their allotted overs.

Kendal needed just over six runs an over to win, and although pro Jamie How was dismissed for 14, Marc Brown catching off Stuart Dixon, the visitors were on target when they reached 44-1 in the seventh over.

But the run rate slowed after the wicket of Donovan Du Plessis (10) in the eighth over, and with Terry Hunte bowled by Pienaar for 20 the over after, Kendal struggled to get going again.

As they tried to get runs on the board the wickets tumbled and they finished on 101-9.
