TIM Farron MP has called on the Football Association to create a three-up, three-down system between League Two and the Blue Square Premier Division.

The Westmorland and Lonsdale MP believes there is a ‘bottleneck’ of good sides fighting for a position in the Football League, and that creating another position in the promotion and relegation battle wlll distribute wealth between different levels of the game in a fairer way.

“A lot of teams outside the Football League have professional set-ups and the quality between the two divisions is very similar - the current system is almost a bar on progress.

“Kendal are looking to build a new stadium and they are only a few divisions away from the Football League, so a change could really help teams such as Kendal aspire to greater heights.”

He has tabled an Early Day Motion to Parliament calling on the government to back a campaign to support the three-up, three-down system.
