Cumbria Ladies make history in Waterloo Cup

CUMBRIA County Ladies are through to the semi-final of the Waterloo Cup for the first time since the competition began in 1987.
They played their final match of the league series yesterday against Mid Cheshire.
After an excellent seven home wins at Roose Cons Bowling Club and five away wins at Comberbatch Bowling Club Cheshire, Cumbria Ladies secured their third win of the year by seven chalks.
Jessica Wernham of King Alfred, Emma Thornton of King Alfred and Karen Walker of North Scale picked up crucial home wins while away wins included Ayeshia Wilson of Hawkshead and Ann Radford of Co op.
Cumbria finished second and will take on Wales in the semi-final on August 19, while the final takes place at Waterloo on September 9.
KINGS Arms Hale A came out on top in the battle between second and third in the Kendal and District Bowling League.
They defeated Holme A 6-4 in a close match to keep up the pace with league leaders Netherfield A, who beat Windermere A 6-4 to increase their lead to five points.
Levens A continue to quietly go about their business after a strong home win against Lower Holker A 8-2 in Division One.

WARTON A still lead Netherfield A by six points in the South Westmorland Seniors Bowling League after both teams won 7-1.
Silverdale A remain third thanks to a 6-2 victory at Heversham A.
Only four points separate the top five teams in Division Two, while Carnforth B moved two points ahead of Carnforth A in Division Three after they won 7-1 to keep up the pressure on table-topping
Springfield A, 7-1 losers to Abbot Hall.

LEVENS A look firm favourites to retain the Rothay Bowling League Division One as they moved seven points clear of Staveley A.
The league leaders, who also have a game in hand, beat Crosthwaite 7-3.
At the other end of the table, Windermere’s chances of resisting relegation are looking a little desperate after losing 9-1 to Lower Holker A, but next to bottom Lindale won their third consecutive
match, picking up an 8-2 success over Ambleside A.

CONSISTENT Brian Longhorn of Kendal won the Ambleside Open Singles competition on Sunday, defeating Martin Gilpin of Hale 21-14 in the final.
Longhorn had overcome Derek Tebay of Ambleside 21-16 in the semi-final while Gilpin eased past Paul Kissock (Staveley) 21-4.
