Rugby - Stockport shock for Kendal

Stockport 32 Kendal 19.

Kendal were never allowed to settle by the large Stockport pack and trailed to an early converted try before a run by Simon Mulholland put Luke Ladell in at the corner to reduce the lead to 7-5.

Poor tackles marred Kendal's performance throughout the game and one result in a second converted try.

Stockport crossed the line for the third time nine minutes before half time and the conversion gave them a 21-5 lead at the break.

A powerful run from flanker Garry Holmes took him within a few metres of the Stockport try line and centre Massey Tuhakaraina scored besides the posts, but the visitors conceded a penalty which Stockport converted to make the score 24-12.

From a good scrum in the Stockport twenty-two Massey Tuhakaraina scooted over for his second try which brother Patrick again converted to bring Kendal within five points. Kendal should have at least levelled the score five minutes later. They were held short of the line but recycled the ball which was whipped out wide into the back line but the ball went to ground with the try line completely unprotected.

Stockport's No.8 bludgeoned his way over the Kendal try line for an unconverted try and a further three points for A penalty six minutes from the end it wrapped up the victory for the home side.
