THERE has been more player movement at Parkside Road this week with two players signing on the dotted line.
Former Lancaster City man Josh Kenworthy is a prospect manager Lee Ashcroft is looking forward to working with this season. Kenworthy has impressed in the friendlies so far this season, scoring two goals in his last two matches against Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool Wren Rovers.
Alex Randell, the five foot five who started his career with Morecambe, will also play for Town as Ashcroft looks to bolster his midfield.
“He’s a pacy striker which is something we haven’t really had before - he’s hungry for goals and he’ll play off the shoulder of the defender so he’ll be a threat.
“He’s a breath of fresh air in the dressing room and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“There is nobody fitter than Alex Randell in the squad. His passing wasn’t what we expected on Tuesday night but he’ll be the first to admit that and he’ll get better with more games pre-season.”
Meanwhile, 22-year-old midfielder Adam Farrell has left the club to join AFC Fylde, while full-back Cieran Donnelly has retired from the game after he fell out of love with football towards the end of last season.
The goalkeeping situation is yet to be resolved, with Craig Dootson, former Wigan shot-stopper Josh Welsby and Tom Newton all vying for the number one jersey, and Ashcroft will give it a few more games before he decides on which one to go for.
Town’s friendly away to Wednesfield on August 4 has been called off.
The Black and Whites travel to the Giant Axe on Saturday to take on Kenworthy’s former club Lancaster City, before they face Lostock St Gerrards on Tuesday night at the earlier kick off time of 7pm.
