Pre-Season Friendly
Kendal Town 1
Workington Reds 2
KENDAL Town’s final pre-season friendly ended in a 2-1 defeat at Parkside Road against Blue Square Conference North side Workington Reds.
The visitors took the lead on 18 minutes when a cross was delivered from a corner and centre half Kyle May headed it down and beyond keeper Craig Dootson.
Kendal Town’s best chance of the first half came when Josh Kenworthy flicked the ball on to Danny Wisdom, who knocked it down for Alex Taylor to rifle a shot which struck the post and bounced into the hands of the keeper.
A chance came for Town in the early stages of the second half as Danny Wisdom chased the ball down the left to get the ball down the line for Kenworthy. Under pressure from a Workington defender, Kenworthy crossed the ball in for Leadbetter, who somehow got the ball away from his tangled feet and the move ended with El-Harrati shooting over.
With 19 minutes left on the clock, Workington doubled their lead from a setpiece. The ball came in towards the back post and May got a touch which caught El-Harrati off guard. He misjudged his clearance and struck the ball onto the underside of the bar and into the net.
Town got one back 10 minutes before the end of the game when a long throw from skipper Marc Joseph missed two defenders and fell to Neil Cowperthwaite. He didn't connect with his header well so the ball looped into the top corner past the Workington keeper for the game’s second own goal.
But despite pulling that goal back, the Black and Whites couldn’t get the equaliser and were forced to settle for a 2-1 defeat.
