Young Kendal rugby side taught lesson by Vale Of Lune

WITH rumours of up to 16 players being unavailable, Kendal took a young and inexperienced squad to Vale of Lune at Lancaster and paid the price, being overpowered up front and outpaced behind the pack.

Veterans Ian Voortman and Gary Holmes played well in the first quarter, where Kendal restricted Lune to a single breakaway try.

But Lune extended their lead in the second quarter with three more tries from Andrew Sutcliffe, Jimmy Moore and Darren Wilson.

After the break Lune ran in a further two tries before Kendal got their only score of the game with a converted try.

In the final quarter Kendal came more into the game as Lune experimented, but they could not break a resolute Lune defence as they conceded a further try for a final score of 47-7 to the Vale of Lune.

Kendal travelled to Wharfedale near Skipton last night before they round off their pre-season programme with a home tie to Wigton at Mint Bridge on Saturday.
