TOM Young from Newbiggin-on-Lune has edged his way into the final of the S8 50m freestyle after finishing joint fourth in his heat this morning (Monday).
Young got off to a poor start but fought his way back to finish in dead heat with Aussie Blake Cochrane, who already has two gold medals from this Paralympic Games, for fourth in 27.81.
Denis Tarasov from Russia obliterated the world record by half a second to win the heat in 25.92.
Young will start from one of the outside lanes in the final, which is scheduled to take place at around 8pm tonight (Monday).
