Ulverston Otters find home comfort with success in the pool

HAVING travelled far and wide to various venues it came as a change for Ulverston Otters swimmers to compete in one of their own Galas.

They got off to a great start with some fine swims at 200m backstroke. Taylor Aplin, Eden-Joy Light, Ryan Metcalfe and Amy Richardson all picked up personal best times.

Light had to work hard to hold off the challenge of Rebecca Fell but she saved her exertions for the final length to take victory.

Richardson also had a tough race with Samantha Blundell and Emily Wild in the mix, but Richardson’s superb skill brought her a well-earned win.

Tom Robinson came head to head with Charlie Segger but emerged as winner in a close finish.

The breaststroke 50m sprints saw Aplin dominate to gain her second win and P.B. Fell, Segger and Blundell all overturned the previous results and came through to win.

Rhiannon Ellis also showed superb skill and technique to pull off a splendid win over Alix Knagg. This result was reversed in the 100m butterfly events where Knagg’s strength and power took her to success plus a P.B.

Again, Fell and Richardson needed all their skill and talent to hold off challenges to take their second wins of the night. The 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley saw the emergence of another up and coming star in the shape of nine-year-old Anya Sharp, who won both her races in these events.

One of the most exciting races of the evening came from Lois Morrell and Ellie Simons where Morrell managed a powerful finishing burst to win at freestyle.

Other comfortable winners on the night were Ryan Metcalf, Austin Wilson, Scott Munro-Bennett, Zachary Lewis Morgan, Gordon Bellin, Rachell Morrell, Zarina Wilson and Katrina Meekin.
