Ashcroft irate despite FA Cup progress
KENDAL Town boss Lee Ashcroft was furious at the injuries his players sustained at the hands of Dunston UTS in the replay at Parkside Road on Tuesday night.
Defenders Jack Duggan and Jordan Tucker, and striker Josh Kenworthy face lengthy lay-offs after all three were sent to hospital because of the injuries they picked up.
Duggan, who has been colossal at centre back this season, had his shoulder ‘popped out’ according to Ashcroft, while Kenworthy, another to impress this season, was allegedly kneed in the back which pulled a muscle near his spine, and he was stretchered into an ambulance at the end of the match.
Tucker suffered a suspected fractured ankle when he went down with nobody around him after going up for a header.
Alex Taylor missed Tuesday’s replay with a hamstring injury, and he was seeing a specialist today (Thursday) to find out if he will be fit for Saturday’s match against North Ferriby United.
Skipper Marc Joseph has been away on international duty for the FA Cup games, and will be back for Saturday, while Craig Dootson is banned for the next two matches, so Josh Welsby will step in.
Town also face a trip to table-topping Marine on Tuesday night.
A furious Ashcroft said after the game: “It’s an absolute nightmare - everyone knows the situation we’re in this season so I’m not happy at all.
“We played against a team of thugs and now we’ve got three good lads going to hospital.”
The victory means Town have booked an FA Cup Second Round Qualifying tie against Witton Albion at Parkside Road on Saturday, September 22.
Witton have made a decent start to life in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after getting promoted last season, and lie 12th in the division four places above Kendal Town.
Meanwhile the Black and Whites have made two loan signings from Stockport County.
Midfielder Andy Graham and striker Deji Omoboye have been taken on, and will vie with Liam Wynn for a place in the starting line-up on Saturday.
With Town now loaning three players, a maximum of two are allowed to be in the squad.
