FA Trophy First Qualifying Round
KENDAL Town came from a goal and a man down to take the tie to a replay at Parkside Road on Saturday.
The home side took the lead in the first half when a Lee Atherton free kick found Mike Grogan in the penalty area and he headed the ball into the bottom corner.
It was a disjointed first period but Sefton Gonzales thought he had scored his first goal for the club when Scott Harries and new signing Chris Mason combined well, with the latter’s mis-hit shot falling to the six foot five striker who netted into the back of the net, but the assistant referee’s flag was raised and the goal was chalked off.
Alex Randall saw red for Kendal after losing his temper with the referee.
But Town responded in a positive way and created some pressure with Harries and Mason causing problems.
Kendal's young superstar harries scored the equaliser in bizarre circumstances on 63 minutes when a free-kick Harries took from wide on the left evaded everyone including the home goalkeeper as the wind took hold and blew it into the goal.
As the game drew to an end Kendal had two chances to nick it when a free kick from captain Marc Joseph was inches away and a shot from Mason went over the bar.
But the Black and Whites had to settle for a draw at the Evo-Stik First Division North club, and the game will go to a replay in Cumbria on Tuesday night.
Should Kendal get through the tie on Tuesday they face a long trip to either Belper Town in Derbyshire, who are 20th in the Northern Evo-Stik First Division South, or Warwickshire to take on Leamington FC, who currently lead the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.
The second qualifying round matches take place on October 27.
