Warriors make winning start to basketball season
11:10am Thursday 18th October 2012 in Sport
Kendal Warriors 77 Richmond 66 Northern Basketball League KENDAL Warriors made a winning start to the season against Richmond at The Queen Katherine School.
After a slow opening quarter which saw Kevin Mason become Kendal's main offensive threat, Kendal were down 17- 26., but they came back into the game through the offence of Gareth France and greater defensive pressure applied by Phil Mason and Kon Arfanis.
At the end of the half the score had turned to 40-38 in favour of the home team.
The third quarter saw both teams fade slightly due to fatigue so the introduction of Luke Garnett and Gareth Beacock proved essential in giving a much needed rest to the fantastic defensive efforts of Keith McInnes and Kevin Mason.
Going into the final quarter the game was still in the balance at 52-48 in favour of Kendal.
However some sharp shooting from Gareth France and Kon Arfanis coupled with the continued physical defensive efforts of Keith McInnes and Mike Smith saw the home team run out winners 77-66.
The scorers on the day were G France 40, K Mason 11, K Arfanis 11, P Mason 8, M Smith 5, K McInnes 2, L Garnett 0, G Beacock 0.
