ARNSIDE Knott fell race turned out to be a challenging route with testing climbs in an event which filled the void left by the cancelled Eaves Wood Trail Race.

The unattached Paul Webb from Bentham won the event in 36.44 just over a minute ahead of V40 Nick Sharp, with Ambleside’s Paul Knowles third in 38.17.

First female was Annie Conway from Ambleside in 39.13, with Helm Hill’s Mel Hyder second in 39.44.

The front two were four minutes ahead of V40 Kath Aubrey, of Helm Hill.

Organisers said they were given positive responses from the 133 senior runners and 65 juniors who enjoyed the course and venue.

At the Tour of Pendle Howgill Harrier Carl Bell took the win from Ian Nixon of Pudsey, Andy Brown and Sam ‘Watdog’ Watson in fourth.

Meanwhile the 16th Ravenstonedale 10K Race will be held on Saturday.

Previous races have attracted big names and between 150 and 200 runners, and a similar number is expected this year.
