RECORD numbers braved the elements to complete the Kendal Sprint Tri this weekend at Lakes Leisure Kendal.

A 500m swim was followed by an 18k bike ride and a 5k run as more than 200 triathletes descended on the Auld Grey Town, with many new to the sport and racing for the first time.

The event was hosted by MyTriClub and complemented with a popular children’s Aquathon, giving a great family atmosphere.

The event was won by Jordan Hull in a time of 1:00:51, with Jon Holt second nearly two minutes behind the winner, Ulverston-based Peter Dennes crossed the finishing line third.

Rosamary Byde won the women’s event in a time of 1:10:25, followed by Suzie Richards in 1:11:45 and Rachel Ward took third, finishing 40 seconds behind Richards.

Many local triathletes from Kendal Tri Club took part in the race in challenging weather.

First of the Kendal Tri members was Paul Troughton, who finished sixth in a time of 1:05:23.

Nicolas Carlton and Jacob Dyer were the next two home in 16th and 17th, while Mari Cole was the first female to come home for Kendal Tri in 75th.
