Kirkham's No 1 sprinter, Lucy Mansfield and Taegan O'Hara were the star performers of the penultimate track and field meeting of the season when both athletes won two events at the Stanley Park Arena, last weekend.

Lucy held off a determined challenge from her Carr Hill schoolmate, Katy Wyper, to win the under 17 womens 100m.sprint title in a time of 12.9 seconds to Wyper's 13.0 secs but was a clear winner in the 200m. where Mansfield clocked 25.8 secs to Wyper's 26.8 secs with Claire Owens making a clean sweep for Blackpool in the 100m with 14.5 secs for third place.

Competing in the under 15 girls division, Taegan O'Hara won a hotly contested long jump event with a leap of 4.42m and then went on to win the 70m hurdles in 12.5 secs - an exceptional time for a youngster in such a technical event.

The mighty Myerscough family from Over Wyre were the toast of the senior mens division with youngtest son, Grant, winning the shot putt with a throw of 12.17m from his father, Dave, who was runner-up with 10.19m.

Meanwhile, Matt Wright continued his seasons good form by winning the pole vault event with a clearance of 4.00m.

For the senior women, Nia Rutter was again a double winner, despite the absence of her favourite event, the triple jump - winning the 100m sprint in 13.80 secs followed by the 100m hurdles in 16.20 secs.

In the under 17 mens division, Greg Nash took the 400m title in 62.1 secs and Marcus Quarmby, the 800m with a strong performance of 2 mins 04.7 secs whilst Declan O'Hara came 2nd in the pole vault with a splendid personal best of 3.80m and Greg Nash was runner-up in the 800m in 2 mins 23.7 secs.

Jamie Thomson was the busiest athlete for the under 15 boys, taking 2nd.place in the shot putt with 9.00m followed by 5th in the 800m in 2 mins 28.3 secs and 6th in the 200m in 26.8 secs Joe Gigli ran a strong 800m to finish runner-up in 2 mins 15.2 secs with good support coming from Alex Nash who clocked 2 mins 22.1 secs for 4th place.

In the 1500m blue ribband event, Adam Weightman tantallisingly missed the 5 minute barrier by 1/10th second for third place and Matt Walker took 4th place in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.30m.

Chloe Needham won a closely contested under 15 girls pole vault event, on countback, from her teammate, Becci Ferguson, with both girls clearing the same height of 2.10m Loryn McCudden and Tanya Wright completed a clean sweep for BWFAC in this event with clearances of 1.80m and 1.40m respectively for 3rd and 4th spots.

In the sprint events, Alicia Johnston was runner-up in the 100m in 13.6 secs narrowly beating her training partner, Bethany Towers(13.7).

Lydia Critchley was also a runner-up in the 200m in a fine 26.6 secs with Alicia Johnston taking 3rd place in 27.0 secs.

These positions were duplicated in the 75m hurdles with Bethany Towers taking 2nd place in 12.1 secs and Natasha Johnson 3rd in 13.3 secs.

Bethany was again in action in the shot putt event where she came 3rd with a throw of 8.62m.

In the under 13 boys category, Ben Everson continued his seasons unbeaten run by taking the 800m in 2 mins 24.3 secs followed home by Bradley Yates in 2.32.6.

Luis Blyth took the long jump title with 4.47m and followed up with 2nd place in the 200m in 29.5 secs ahead of teammate Ashley Hails in 3rd place in 30.3 secs.

Finn Walker also had a good day taking 3rd place in the 100m (14.3) and 2nd place in long jump(4.19).

Rebecca Todd was a clear winner in the shot putt event with a throw of 8.00m.ahead of traing partner, Lindsay O'Brien in 3rd place(7.18).

However Tash Gardner was surprisingly beaten in the under 13 girls 100m by Maxine Mieju of Lancaster and Morecambe AC who recorded 13.6 secs to Gardner's 13.7 secs and Jodie Ferguson ran strongly to take the runners-up spot in the 800m in 2 mins 30.1 secs.

In the under 11 category, Dominic Lavelle took 2nd place in the long jump with 3.69m against Bethany Everson's 3rd place with 3.52m whilst Bethany did one better by taking 2nd place in the 600m in 1 mins 58.4 secs just outsprinting Amelia Betmead who was third in 1.58.7.
