TWO men were given a send off by some of the UK’s best athletes, who descended on Coniston to help the pair on their epic adventure.
Norman and James Beech, who are rowing across the Atlantic to raise £40,000 for Water Aid, were visited by cross country ace Gemma Miles, 29, who grew up in Coniston, and fell running star Sarah Tunstall, of Kirkby Stephen.
The athletes supported their Beech Boys Bonanza event, which raised cash for the duo’s challenge, plus fellow athletes Mark Miles and Rebecca Robinson.
They also competed against locals in The Unfair Games, a competition to highlight the fact that 4,000 children die every day around the world, due to lack of sanitation and clean water.
