MID-Lancs Cross Country League success came across the age groups for Kendal AC at Blackpool on Saturday.

All of the U11 boys were new to cross country but put up a fine show led by Cole Blakie, fourth in 8-02, in a fast-paced race.

Euan Mason showed promise in 14th in 9-08 followed by Brin Morgan Mythan 23rd (9-48), Eric Kimani 27th (10.30) and Finbar Morgan Mythan 29th (10-53).

Most excited with his run was U13 Matt Doey, who has yet another year in this category, as he finished fifth in 11-17. No far behind was Tom Taylor, eighth in 11-30, with Mark Sullivan, 14th in 12-12, making this yet another strong team for the future., Helm Hill runner James Knox, who has moved up to the U15s this year should be extremely pleased with his fourth in14-09.

The inter-club battle between Robbie Ingham and Tom Hartley turned tables on the flat course of Blackpool.

After two wins in a row for Hartley this was Ingham’s race as he was seventh in 14-38, with Hartley also running well for 15th in 15-01.

One of the most satisfiying races for Kendal coach Steve Priestley was the U17 boys. Although the lead two got away from the start, a group of four stuck together.

With half a lap to go Patrick Vicary pushed the pace, taking team-mate Luke Ingham and a Liverpool rival with him.

Ingham used his track speed in the final 400m to take third, with Vicary fourth fourth in the same time of 20-53. Their effort brought them within three seconds of the second-placed finisher.

Returning after fracturing a bone in his foot, Mike Hoyle ran a pre-planned race to be19th in 23-50, completing the strongest team of the day for third place overall, a point behind second-placed Rossendale..
