A LARGE crowd turned out for the Hutton Roof Country Fair and Fell Race on Saturday as the weather stayed fine.
The annual event has been running since 1977 and includes adult and children’s races, stalls, home-baked cakes, crafts, animals and play areas.
Despite a brisk wind, 215 senior fell runners took part in the seven-mile course, which includes 1,300ft of climbing the surrounding fells including Newbiggin and Farleton Knott.
Winner of the Sheepskin Trophy was Borrowdale’s Morgan Donnelly, of Dufton, near Appleby, who got round in 47 minutes 32 seconds.
In second place was Bingley’s Rob Jebb, of Staveley, in 48 minutes 20 seconds and Chris Steele, of Borrowdale, was third in 48 minutes and 40 seconds.
In the over-40s category, Kendal’s Craig Roberts completed the course in 49 minutes and 41 seconds.
New courses were set for the junior races with pupils from Arkholme School among the 42 runners.
Winners were Will Reid, Angus Haygarth and Thomas Atkinson.
Rosie and Scarlett Dale were jointly awarded the Hutton Roof Cup after both winning their respective races.
