ANNA Lupton broke the course record for women in the Rusland five-mile fell race.

Her time of 35.12 was enough for her to finish third overall in a fantastic race from the Radcliffe AC runner.

She crossed the line six minutes and 40 seconds ahead of Helen Woodley, with Isobel Whitcomb third.

Craig Roberts came out on top overall in the race.

The Kendal AC runner won in a time of 33.28 - the V40 man finishing more than a minute ahead of the unattached Matt Brindle.

Roberts and Lupton also came out on top in the shorter fell race over 1.75 miles.

Roberts finished first in 14.51, with Lupton second overall in 15.30 and Paul Knowles from Ambleside tied for third in a time of 15.40 with Black Combe runner Richard Evans.

LV40 Eleanor Knowles from Ambleside was second in 19.45.

In the Sedbergh Hills fell race on Sunday Andy Brown from Clayton-le-Moors emerged victorious with 2.22.06, four minutes ahead of Holmfirth’s Tom Brunt. Borrowdale runner Steve Birkenshaw was third with a time of 2.27.28.

Fiona Hughes was the first lady to cross the line in 2.47.32.

The Cambridge University girl was three minutes ahead of Hazel Robinson from Ambleside, with Fanni Gyorko from Mercia FR third.

Helm Hill runner Tom Addison finished second in the Weasdale Horseshoe, a minute behind Mercia man Simon Bailey, who finished in 55.09.

Borrowdale’s Morgan Donnelly was third just five seconds behind Addison. Mark Addison finished seventh.

Olivia Walwyn-Bush from Altrincham and District won the ladies’ event in 1.04.35, five minutes ahead of Bingley Harrier Sharon Taylor. Helen Berry from Holmfirth made up the top three.
