LANCASHIRE secured promotion back to LV= County Championship Division One after drawing their last home match of the season with Leicestershire at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Red Rose county claimed 11 points from the weather-affected fixture and saw their return to the top flight confirmed as rain and bad light conspired to deny third-placed Essex of a chance to earn victory at Kent.

Lancashire return to Division One with two matches remaining against Gloucestershire at Bristol and Kent at Canterbury.

And coach Peter Moores has set his sights on clinching the title with the Red Rose outfit needing just 12 points to achieve that aim.

Moores said: “We’re in a very strong position at the moment, and we’ve got to play good cricket for two more games.

“It’s a bit clichéd, but we’ll take it as we have done all the way through – it’s one game at a time.

“We’ll go to Bristol and do the same sorts of things, try and play our brand of cricket and try to get a win.”

Resuming the final day on 60-3 in reply to Lancashire’s first-innings 453-seven declared, Ben Raine was instrumental in their close of play score of 329 all out with a career best 72 off 162 balls, including eight fours and a six, before the captains agreed on a draw.
