WHILE acknowledging the workload was pretty demanding, Kendal captain Stu Parkin insists the rewards far outstrip any form of tiredness after a frenetic period of cricket.

Parkin bowled 33 overs in five days as Kendal contested matches across three competitions, which saw Bluefin County Cup progress and mixed results in the TWP Wealth Twenty20 tournament.

The Shap Road club also returned to form in the league, departing Barrow with an eight-wicket win as the 33-year-old played a captain’s role with 6-53.

And while Kendal can bask in the glory of three wins from four matches, Parkin admits it is challenging for bowlers with three formats of the game to contend with in such quick succession.

“I wouldn’t want to bowl that many overs every weekend but I’m actually feeling ok,” he said.

“It has been a bit of hard slog and quite difficult to adjust, we played up at Netherfield on Friday and just didn’t bowl the right lengths.

“But Barrow was completely different and especially from my end it was doing quite a bit back of a length, which tends to be a length I try and hit using my height.

“Saturday was a great day for me, it doesn’t happen very often but when it does it’s pretty special,
everything seemed to click.

“The County Cup on Sunday was eight overs apiece which was similar in terms of bowling lengthsand then Twenty20 again on Tuesday on quite a flat pitch with short boundaries.

“It can be difficult for bowlers having to adjust their bowling strategy for different forms of the game, especially with so many games in such a short space of time.”

Kendal travel to Penrith on Friday for a Twenty20 clash before heading to Chorley on Saturday, keen to build on victory at Barrow – a first Northern League win since the beginning of May.

But it was the heavy defeat to Netherfield in the TWP Twenty20 which proved the inspiration for their more positive results, including a much sought after win against their Auld Grey rivals in the County Cup quarter final.

“We were down after such a poor performance against Netherfield last Friday – it was a horror show,” he added.

“It’s embarrassing when you’re involved in a performance where no fight is offered whatsoever.

“But we had a good chat on Saturday morning and said there was a good chance to put things right with so many games coming up and that’s exactly what we did.

“It was good to put the derby stuff to bed as well and progress to the county cup semi finals.”
