FOR the second year in succession, Netherfield skipper Marc Brown lifted silverware as the Parkside Road club bolstered their trophy collection by retaining their TWP Wealth Twenty20 crown.

After navigating a finely poised semi-final against Lancaster by 13 runs, Netherfield showed their strength in the final by dispatching Blackpool by a massive 54-run margin.

At one stage or another all members of the side showcased their ability, with Ben Barrow top scoring with 42 against Lancaster and Sri Lankan professional Saliya Saman destroying Blackpool in the final with a 37-ball 72.

The bowling unit also proved strong as slow left-armer Tom Williamson shone, with Brown basking in the glory of victory but already eyeing the next challenge.

“I was so proud of the lads on Sunday and it’s a massive achievement for the club,” he said.

“I said in the build up to the game that we’re pretty confident in the T20 format – it’s as good a team as I’ve played for in the shortest form of the game.

“We’re a young set of lads with no player over the age of 28 and have played against some experienced teams during the course of the competition.

“We’re pretty covered in all aspects of the game and players know their roles inside out.

“But in the end it’s about individual responsibility and we’ve talked about it all season. Sometimes it’s about two guys or one person with the ball stepping up for the team.

“The likes of Saliya Saman and Tom Williamson were brilliant but everyone stood up to be counted.

“It’s a fantastic achievement and we now move onto the regional final. It would be massive to progress and be able to represent the league in a national competition.”

Brown has now delivered a trophy in both years of his captaincy with plenty of twists and turns remaining this summer and further silverware up for grabs.

In defeating Fleetwood on Saturday, Netherfield won their fourth league game in five outings as Australian Ben Phillips notched his maiden century for the club, with Brown falling just short of three figures with 96.

“From the team’s point of view we’ve won a trophy in both of the last two years and our league form is coming together so there’s a bit of buzz about the place,” he added.

“We’ve got the remainder of the league campaign and the Readers Cup to come so there is plenty to play for and we need to take momentum from the T20 forward.

“I was really pleased with the result against Fleetwood and it proved a fantastic weekend.

“It was Ben’s time and he’s looked really good all season. It’s been great to get him on board as he’s a quality player.

“It all came together for him on Saturday and he produced a good knock. I missed out but that’s just cricket.

“But that’s my inspiration going into the next two or three weeks. I’ll back myself to get a score as I’m feeling good.”
