NETHERFIELD captain Marc Brown has no regrets about his side's poor early season form knowing had results panned out differently they could have been challenging at the top end of the table.

A run of six wins out of their last seven matches is championship winning form for Netherfield but Brown is not dwelling on 'what ifs'.

"We have been on a great run of form recently and I suppose if we had started the season in better form then we would have been right up there," said Brown after picking up a winning draw against leaders Morecambe. "But I don't regret anything about how things have gone because that is just cricket.

"In this league you have already seen then everyone is capable of beating anyone else and I said at the start of the season that most teams will have a poor run.

"It just so happens that ours was right at the start of the campaign."

But what Brown does want is for his side to carry that momentum in to the second half of the season and see how things unfold.

"We narrowly lost to champions Blackpool last week when really we could have won and we picked up a winning draw against Morecambe at the weekend," said Brown. "It shows that we can match the league's top sides but we now have to back it up and try and repeat what we have done over the last six or so weeks.

"Momentum is massive in sport and we have that at the moment so we have to work hard to carry that on in the remainder of the season."

Against Morecambe, Miller won the toss and elected to bat.

It was a solid if not spectacular performance with the bat as Netherfield finished on 211-9 from their allotted 50 overs.

Miller singled out the efforts of youngsters Bradley Earl (40) and Joe Atkinson (48) who helped push the total over the 200 mark.

"Brad and Joe are two of the younger players in the team and they did a great job," he said. "They played intelligently and with maturity and helped us get a decent target."

Netherfield did get off to a solid with Ben Barrow (28), Richard Potter (13), Brown (13) and John Huck (18) moving the total along.

But is was Earl and Atkinson who really resisted the Morecambe bowlers for which professional Suraj Randiv (4-56) and Edward Read (3-71) were the pick.

Having made inroads with the ball, Randiv did likewise with the bat as he top scored with 75 to slow Netherfield down as they made early breakthroughs – opener Josh Dixon (2) and Ryan Pearson (0) at number four both departing cheaply.

But Randiv forged important partnerships with Edward Read (35) and Gareth Pedder (26) as the leaders seemed to settle for the draw rather than attack the total.

“I think Morecambe may have got it wrong it settling for the draw because it was an achievable target,” said Brown. “Who knows, they may end up regretting that.”

Netherfield sit out the action this weekend but return with a trip to Penrith the following week – and Brown is looking no further than that.

“We will rest up on Saturday and prepare for Sunday’s Twenty/20 final at Lancaster,” said Brown.

“As for the league, we won’t be looking any further than the Penrith match.

“It is a dangerous game to look to far ahead because if you do, you can become unstuck. So, just as we have always done, it will be a case of one game at a time and see what happens.”
