CAPTAIN Chris Miller came to the rescue to earn Kendal an unlikely tie as a thirteenth loss of the season looked on the cards against Chorley.

The Shap Road club travelled to Windsor Park searching for their first win since late July but were dismissed for just 112 in the first innings.

A victory looked in sight as Miller tore through the Chorley attack to leave them on 96-9 - but James Lee and Ian Dickinson dug in deep to edge closer to the target.

With the scores level and Lee at the crease, Miller's spin proved crucial to trap the batsman - claiming his seventh wicket to give both sides eight points a piece.

"It was very nervy towards the end for both teams," said Miller. "We wanted to attack to get the last wicket but knew one or two boundaries would have killed us off so it was a difficult position to be in.

"There was a massive sense of relief when we got the last wicket. I don't think we deserved to lose but it was a funny old game that both sides probably deserved to come out with a tie.

"At one stage I thought whatever we can take out of the game would be a bonus but we managed to get over 100 to give ourselves something to bowl at.

"We got a few early wickets and I thought we could be in with a shout but they had a big partnership and then it felt as if the points were lost but we managed to pull it back again to look like we were going to win before it ended up as a tie."

Kendal won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Richard Herron and Saeed Bariwala made 18 before the latter was bowled by Edwin Moulton in the eighth over.

Darren Nightingale then fell for a golden duck before Herron and Eldred Hawken put on a third wicket stand of 20, the highest in Kendal's innings, before Herron (21) was caught by Andrew Houldsworth off the bowling of Keiran McCullagh.

Hawken (20) was next to go before a welcome drinks break in the 25th over arrived with Kendal on 53-4.

Oliver Field fell for another golden duck shortly after off the bowling of James Lee before a handy 25 from Lewis Richardson saw Kendal's total creep up to 85-6.

Miller added a useful 15 before Will Moulton combined with Andrew Houldsworth to claim his scalp in the 44th over.

Hyland (18) was next to be sent packing before Moulton claimed his third wicket of Paul Dowker to wrap up the innings in 45.3 overs.

It only took until the third over before Moulton (1) was dismissed by Hawken.

Jack Bentham and Ian Oakes both fell to golden ducks off the bowling of Miller with Hawken and Herron picking up the catches to leave Chorley on 17-3 off ten overs.

Joseph Tiffin and Houldsworth added some steel to the attack and gave Chorley a chance of taking the points before Miller caught the latter off the bowling of Bariwala.

Four more wickets fell in the next eight overs as the tide turned in Kendal's favour with Chorley on the verge at 96-9.

But Lee and Dickinson were frustrating the Kendal bowlers and looked to have secured the win for their side until, with both teams on 112, Miller struck to earn the draw.
