LEVEN Valley secured their first knockout cup victory since 1987 on Sunday as they lifted the Moon & Coxhill Division 4 t20 trophy with an emphatic nine-wicket win over Morecambe 3rds at Silverdale CC.
Morecambe skipper Andy Creech won the toss and elected to bat first on a firm surface but a combination of tight bowling and fielding as well as some loose stroke play meant not a single Morecambe batsmen reached double figures in a total score of 47 all out in just 14 overs.
All of Leven Valley’s bowlers were in the wickets with Simon Williams (3-9), Freddie Burrow (1-16), Andy Foster (2-5), Martyn Weaver (2-11) and Chris Husband (1-2) doing the damage alongside a David Brackwell run-out.
As a fielding side Leven Valley were offered six catches in total, all of which were taken confidently.
In reply Leven Valley reached their target in controlled fashion in 13.3 overs with Foster (12) the only wicket to fall off the bowling of J. Lupton, leaving Luke Deveney unbeaten on 27 and Husband 4 not out.
The man of the match award was presented to Leven Valley’s Simon Williams for his impressive bowling performance alongside a smart grab in the outfield.
