Cricket - Power surge from Cumberland... when switch is flicked
11:27am Tuesday 3rd August 2010 in Cumberland CCC
THE START of Cumberland's second day in the Minor Counties match against Bucks at Slough was delayed for 40 minutes because the local electricity sub-station was vandalised.
This meant the pavilion shutters could not function until power was restored.
After Cumberland has piled up 410-7 they restricted Bucks to 212 with Marcus Sharp taking 3-26 as David Cranfield-Thompson top-scored for the hosts with 66.
It gave Cumberland a first-innings lead of 198 and Cumberland made 232-9 in their seconds innings with James Lowe (102) and Ikram Ullah (51) making the bulk of the score.
Cumberland currently hold a lead of 430 runs.
Ian Sharp, the Cumberland team manager, said: "It's been another good day and our bowlers - led by the evergreen Marcus Sharp - bowled in the right areas.
"He was economoical and fdfficult to score off. Half of his 18 overs were maidens and this helped to give us a big fight-innings lead, which has now increased to 430.
"Hopefully we can go on and record another victory in a game which we have dominated."
